1). Normandy 1944 / 2024 – “D-Day Land” : des Normands se mobilisent contre le projet d’un nouveau site de mémoire autour du Débarquement. France / Inter (13/08/2020).
En Normandie, un nouveau site de mémoire sur l’histoire du Débarquement de la Seconde Guerre mondiale pourrait voir le jour en 2024. Un projet porté par des producteurs privés, soutenus par le conseil régional, mais qui choque certains habitants qui ont décidé de se mobiliser.
Un “Disneyland du Débarquement”, “un parc d’attraction,”le nouveau Puy du Fou”. Les détracteurs ne manquent pas de comparaisons pour dénoncer ce projet qu’ils jugent “déplacé” et “inutile”. À Ver-sur-Mer, dans le Calvados, certains habitants se sont même regroupés en collectif pour tenter d’y mettre fin. À la tête de la fronde, Maxi Krause, ancienne professeur émérite de l’Université de Caen, qui parle d’une idée “monstrueuse”. Pour elle, on oublie que le Débarquement ce sont aussi des villages rasés, bombardés et des milliers de victimes civiles. “Les cadavres, les têtes broyées, les bras arrachés, les enfants qui hurlent, ce n’est pas du spectacle” dénonce-t-elle.
Parmi les opposants, beaucoup de familles d’anciens combattants. Le père de Francine a participé au Débarquement. “Il en parlait peu mais je sais qu’il n’aurait pas du tout apprécié”, affirme-t-elle. Ghallee, une franco-américaine, dont le grand-oncle s’est battu lui aussi, ce 6 juin 1944, sur les plages françaises, a halluciné en apprenant la nouvelle. Même si les Américains sont très patriotes et fiers de leur armée, jamais ils n’auraient eu cette idée, selon elle. “J’en ai parlé avec des amis américains, pour eux, c’est une moquerie”.

2). Normandy 1944 / 2024 – Le projet D-Day : les premières images de l’évocation historique “Hommage aux héros”, chère à Hervé Morin. France / info (05/08/2020).
D’abord, le nom. Oubliez les D-day land et compagnie, ce projet a été baptisé, en toute simplicité : “L’hommage aux héros”. Il devrait voir le jour en 2024 pour le 80 ème anniversaire du débarquement.
“Ce n’est pas du tout un parc d’attraction ni un Puy du Fou normand” préviennent d’emblée les producteurs, mais plutôt “une évocation historique”.
“Nous souhaitons mettre le public en immersion pendant quarante cinq minutes. Les spectateurs seront amenés à voyager entre l’amphithéâtre, où nous diffuserons des images d’archives sans commentaires, et l’esplanade, où des comédiens et des circassiens évoqueront les gestes mais ne joueront pas. Il n’y aura pas de dialogues.
Nous souhaitons expliquer ce qui s’est passé AVANT le 6 juin, les entraînements, Londres. Le JOUR-J bien sûr. Mais surtout, nous voulons faire comprendre l’APRES et l’enjeu de la bataille de Normandie. Et pour cela, nous allons nous appuyer sur des technologies audiovisuelles modernes.” précise Roberto Ciurleo, l’un des producteurs du projet qui promet une proposition “très innovante”.
“L’hommage aux héros” : Présentation officielle en septembre
Les producteurs entendent les critiques et jurent vouloir “transmettre la mémoire de tous ces héros dans le temps”. Ils présenteront leur projet officiellement en septembre et se donnent encore quelques mois pour trouver un terrain d’une trentaine d’hectares, situé près des plages.
L’écriture a à peine commencé, ce qui fait dire à Stéphane Grimaldi, le directeur du Mémorial de Caen : “Vous savez, le soldat Ryan de Spielberg, ça a généré de l’argent, on ne va pas se mentir. Si ce projet est de qualité, comme le disent ses promoteurs, bien sûr que je le soutiendrais. Je ne vais pas commencer à critiquer quelque chose alors que je ne sais pas ce qui va être dit et montré.”

PLANS for a D-Day landing attraction in Normandy have been slammed for trying to turn the area into a “Disney-style theme park”.
The new £85m attraction dubbed “D-Day Land” has been called an “insult” to those who died in the war.
Hervé Morin, President of the Normandy region, said he wanted to see the tourist attraction in place for the 80th anniversary of the June 6 invasion in 1944 by Allied troops.
He said: “All that’s left is to find building land, not on the D-Day beaches themselves, but very close to Juno, Omaha or Utah [three of the five landing sectors].”
Hervé said he hoped a Hollywood director would choreograph a “spectacular” permanent show which would attract thousands to his region.
There would be battle re-enactments, cinemas, sound-and-light shows, and other attractions designed to appeal to thrill-seeking tourists.

But opponents said the proposed park would be an insult to the thousands who were killed and wounded on D-Day, and during the ensuing Battle of Normandy.
These included British and American troops who were involved in the Liberation of France, and then the final defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945.
A spokesman for France’s National Research Group, made up of historians who cover the war years, said: “The Normandy landings is a page in the history of France which should be respected and not turned into a money-spinning business venture.”
The spokesman said the project “will seriously harm the ecology of the area, but also lacks respect for the veterans and those killed during the Normandy landings and the battle than followed.”
The group has launched a petition against the park, which by Tuesday morning had already reached more than 900 signatures.
Their fear is that the theme park – which has been nicknamed “D-Day Land” – would be in the style of the hugely popular Disneyland Paris, which attracts more than 15 million visitors a year.
Olivier Paz, the Mayor of Merville-Franceville, where British parachutists were involved in fierce fighting to destroy a German gun battery before the D-Day landings, said the new project “should not be allowed to become Disneyland.”
Some five million tourists a year visit Normandy to view world famous historical sites, including the Normandy beaches, and the cemeteries, monuments and museums nearby.
A memorial dedicated to the British Fallen was inaugurated in 2019 by the then-Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron on the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
It is currently under construction in the coastal village of Ver sur Mer, just above the British Gold Beach, and will open in September.
